A date for your diary – Monday 25 March 2019 – Long Distance Swim Night in aid of Bromley Mencap. Last year we raised the amazing amount of £1,250.60 for St Christopher’s Hospice. Let’s see if we can match the amount this year!

There are 1.4 million people in the UK with a learning disability. MENCAP helps to support thousands of people to do the things they love to do.

Hopefully all swimmers will take part and our sponsorship funds will help to make a difference.  All swimmers will have an opportunity to see how far they can swim during their allotted time – a thank you / distance certificate will be presented to each swimmer the next week following the event.

If you want to take part, please complete the attached slip and return it to the desk on a Monday night.

On the night
The swim will take place at the Eric Liddell centre on 25 March 2019.  Come along for your normal swim session.  Make sure that before you come along to swim that you have eaten properly.  It is essential that you bring a drink (water or diluted juice) onto poolside.  You can stop and rest whenever you want.
Put a banana into your swim bag to have after your swim.  Make sure your goggles fit.  Please wear a swimming hat (it is easier for the counters to identify each swimmer).

Each group of swimmers will complete:

  • Some stretching and a short warm up swim.
  • Their main swim (see below for duration)
  • A short warm down

Your main swim duration time will depend on when your normal swim time is:

  • If you normally swim 7.00pm to 8.00pm, your swim duration time will be 45 minutes.
  • If you normally swim 7.00pm to 8.30pm, your swim duration time will be 60 minutes.
  • If you normally swim 8.00pm to 9.30pm, your swim duration time will be 70 minutes.  Although we start with 4 lanes, we’ll pause at 8.30pm, re-group and continue with 3 lanes.
